Daytona’s 2006 Summer Sizzler enjoyed the best
sailing weather in several years, maybe ever. Winds, a steady 10 - 15 kn,
blew both days, the whole day. Sailors setting up on Saturday were visibly
elated looking forward to an afternoon with no delays between starts, and no
rain on the race course. The wind was courtesy of a tropical wave that
parked off the Bahamas the whole weekend (and it moved into Florida on
Monday to bring a whole lot of beneficial rain.). It rained before and after
the races both days; and it rained around the course during races, but on
the race course, it was just fine.
