Hobie 16 Class.
Woody Cope, racing with his daughter Vicki, is a veteran sailor with a reputation, who dominated the Hobie 16 class with a perfect series of 1st place finishes. The competition for second place was keen, between Javier Junco & Kate Brennan and Vernon Kuftic and son, Daniel. The Kuftics had a series of 3 second place finishes on Saturday. On Sunday, they scored less well because a hull port cap broke. They were finally able to plug it with a wet suit top, but the distraction of dealing with the problem clearly showed in Sunday’s scoring drop. While Team Kuftic was working on the port problem, Team Junco & Brennan took full advantage of the scoring gap to shore up their Saturday scores with a duet of second place finishes behind the Copes, and in Sunday’s final race, which the Copes skipped, Team Junco & Brennan finished first. In the final tally, Team Junco & Brennan had 15 points to Team Kuftic’s 16 points. Team Dunn (Lee Dunn and daughter Stephanie) finished 4th with 20 points overall, and Dan Meddis & Nick Tyshing finished 5th with 42 points.
