JPOR has been notable because it always has had a large contingent of H 16 sailors.  Many years, it's the largest class in spite of the fact that Fleet 45 members are hardly strangers to high tech racing cats preferred to the sailing super heroes.  This year, enough H 16 sailors registered to have an A and B fleet on the course.

In the H 16 A fleet, the contest was consistently between Chuck & Charlie Pickering and Mike Burley & Earl Sanders.  These two teams traded 1st and 2nd places throughout the race.   Team Pickering had some bad luck on the last race.  Collision with another boat on the start line holed the Pickering's starboard hull.  (See the oops file for more details).  They did not finish the last race.  In spite of that bad luck, Team Pickering finished 1st, just a single point ahead of Mike and Earl.  Javier Junco and Kate Brennan scored 3rd place in the A fleet.  (For complete scores, see http://mywebpages.comcast.net/smalldog266/hobie16a.htm .)

In Hobie 16 B, the scoring was not so close, even though the sailing was every bit as intense.  Michael Norton and son M, Jr. finished in 1st place with an uninterrupted series of 1st place finishes.  Lee and Stephanie were in second, with a complete series of 2nd place finishes.  Lee and Stephanie are original members of Fleet 45 and both were JPOR officials 30 years ago when this regatta was new from its box.  And they're still sailing after all these years!  Mark and Suzie Boxman finished 3rd.  (For complete results for 16B, see http://mywebpages.comcast.net/smalldog266/hobie16b.htm ).
