In the Flying Scots, Dave Strickland finished 1st with a score of 4: all first place finishes. The 2nd and 3rd place finishes were won in a competitive contest among several crews. When it was all over and the spray settled, Donna Mohe was in 2nd place with 9 points and John Hirsch was 3rd with 10 points.

The Summer Sizzler was a successful regatta again this year. Whether the change in venue will continue remains up in the air. Jacksonville’s sponsoring catamaran fleet, Hobie Fleet 111, had little choice this year. Hurricane Ophelia eroded the beaches so badly last year, access to the usual site on St. Augustine Beach remains too limited to conveniently hold the regatta in the ocean. In addition, the fleet lost a couple of key members when they moved to new jobs out of state. They were unable to find replacements in time for the regatta this year. The advantage for participants is that the Rudder Club has established facilities and an unsurpassed reputation for hospitality. If the Summer Sizzler remains at the Rudder Club, both multi and mono hull sailors can look forward to a great time and a reasonable cost in future regattas.

Thanks:    I thank John Bottenbrush for the ride on a chase boat to take photos of the event.  He and the other membes of Fleet 111 are always good company for the day.  It's all about the fleet's collective empathy.    Robert Murph extended additional hospitality that made the trip to Jacksonville a pleasure.  And as usual, there was the superb hospitality at the Rudder Club.  Thanks to all.
