I thank Bob Ray for running the chase and photography boat. This isn't the first year Bob has run a chase boat for this regatta. But this year, he took both me and Terri Loewen out on Saturday for a series of great photo ops. Thanks, Bob. I can't pass up a chance to mention the roast pork prepared by the Shipes & Eads barbecueing team. A trap baited with that would have a good chance of catching Osama bin Laden if he had missed a few meals. It was great.
The Oooops File
Some sailors just can't put a bad start behind them, and it's really crazy to try to drown yourself to exonerate shame. Finally the little girl got control of the situation and the team continued to race as if nothing more than a lost hat was the issue. You don't see this kind of behavior much at regattas, but just because the paparazzi photographer caught it for Florida Multihull Sailor, the site probably won't be nominated for a Pulitzer prize. But you all can enjoy the scene anyway.
